If you have concrete floors in your home that you want to keep, you need to protect the surface of the concrete. You may also want to add some special to the floors to make them look great, and if you use the right coatings on the floor, you can do both at the same time.

Concrete Sealing

One of the problems with concrete floors is that they are porous and can absorb materials that will stain the floor. The best way to deal with that is to apply a sealer over the concrete to seal and protect it. The sealer needs to be formulated for concrete floors, and there are several options, depending on whether your concrete is indoors or outside and exposed to the elements.

Some sealers are available with color added to them so you can change the color of the floor or add something extra to the room. If you want to use a texture in the sealer to add some grip to the floor, check with the store where you are buying the concrete coating to see if they have a sealer that will work in that application.

Stained Concrete

There is a method of adding a stain to the surface of the concrete floor that allows you to achieve a stone or marbled look to the concrete. The stain needs to be applied before the concrete coating is applied to seal the floor, and you will need to use a clear sealer for the stain to show through.

If you are not comfortable trying to apply the stain, you can hire a concrete floor company to apply the stain for you and then seal the concrete with the appropriate concrete coating that will allow the stain to show through and look great for many years.

Exterior Concrete

If the concrete you need to seal is outside, you can use a few different options to achieve the look you need. The concrete sealer could be clear, or it could be more like a paint product that can be applied to the surface of the concrete. Exterior applications often need recoating after a couple of years, so you will need to watch for the concrete coating to peel or crack.

If the coating starts to fail, it can allow water to get into the concrete, and over time, the water can begin to erode the concrete, causing it to crack and break down. Using the best concrete coating you can afford is the best way to get more durability from the coating and ensure that your concrete floors are protected inside or outside your home.
